Product Description

Clip Shrink is a Unity editor extension that fixes skin poking through clothes. It finds where the body pokes through the clothes on a dressed avatar and makes a new shape key that pulls the body inward only there. The window can switch between English and Japanese.
Tested in VRChat: with a key made by this tool, no skin shows through the sweater on a local test avatar (SDK Build & Test).
No avatar models are included (tool only).
Common problems it solves
- Skin shows through the outfit around the chest, shoulders or elbows.
- Raising a body shape key (bust size etc.) makes it poke through the clothes.
- The mesh named "Body" turns out to be the face, and you are not sure which mesh is the body.
- Fixing the body in Blender is a lot of work, and you want to keep the original body shape.
- You want the body back to normal when the outfit is taken off.
What makes it different
- A Free trial: see the clipping as red dots and preview the shrunk body on your own avatar before buying.
- It does not edit the body directly; it only adds one new shape key (KL_Shrink_<outfit>). To get the original body back, remove it from the outfit's MA Shape Changer (or set its weight to 0 if it was made without MA).
- With Modular Avatar, it adds an MA Shape Changer to the outfit, so the body shrinks only while that outfit is on.
- The body mesh is detected from the bone weights; hair and face are left out from the start.
- The body is not shrunk deeper than 40% of its thickness, so it does not poke out the other side (some clipping may remain on thin fingers and toes).
What it does
- Put the avatar into the window and press "Check clipping". Red dots show where the body pokes through, and the shrunk body is previewed in the Scene view.
- Adjust "Gap to clothes" (2 mm by default) and "Max depth to fix" (3 cm by default, 0.5 to 6 cm).
- Checking only shows a preview; no files are changed.
- Full version: "Make the key and use it" adds the key to a copy of the body mesh (a new file) and swaps only the body mesh. One Ctrl+Z undoes it (the created file stays).
Free vs Full
- Free trial: check clipping and preview the shrunk body in the Scene view. It cannot make the key.
- Full: everything above plus "Make the key and use it" (goes into your upload) and "Shrink only while the outfit is on" (Modular Avatar).
Notes
Only the current pose is checked. For clipping while moving, put the avatar in that pose and check again to make another key; keys add up, so check the look afterwards (to stop a key made with MA, remove it from the outfit's MA Shape Changer). "Shrink only while the outfit is on" needs all ticked clothes to be inside "Outfit object". Clipping deeper than the depth limit is not fixed, to keep the body shape. Thin fingers and toes may keep some clipping. See-through parts of clothes (lace, holes in the texture) are treated as solid surfaces; turned-off clothes are not checked. For a Humanoid avatar. Meshes with Read/Write off cannot be read (the window says which one and how to fix it). Prefab Mode and Project prefabs are not supported (the window stops them). The created mesh is a copy of the original avatar's body; follow the terms of the original avatar and clothes.
Requirements
Unity 2022.3 (tested on 2022.3.22f1). Modular Avatar (tested on 1.18.7) for "Shrink only while the outfit is on"; without it the key is always set to 100.
How to install
- Drag ClipShrink*.unitypackage into the Unity Project window and press Import.
- Menu: Tools > Clip Shrink.
- Put a dressed avatar into the window and press "Check clipping".
Importing the Full version over the Free trial replaces it.
Terms
Personal and commercial use are both OK. You may upload, stream and take photos with avatars that use meshes made with this tool. Follow the terms of the original avatar and clothes. Do not redistribute or resell the tool itself. Use at your own risk.
