Product Description

Your avatar floats above the ground, its feet sink into the floor, or you see from the wrong height in VRChat?
These usually come from a few settings in Unity: where the soles are compared to the avatar's root, where the View Position is, and how the root and rig are set up. (Why avatars float / Feet not touching the ground / View position is wrong)
Checking them by hand means measuring in the scene and guessing which one is the cause.
Avatar Grounding Fixer measures them for you. Press Diagnose and it shows:
- How far the soles are from the ground - "Soles are 4.2 cm above the ground (floating)" or "below the ground (sinking)", and which mesh is the lowest point
- How far the View Position is from between the eyes - in cm, up / forward / side
- Why each item matters and how to fix it, step by step
What it checks
- Ground: the lowest point of the visible meshes vs. the avatar root's height (heels and platform shoes often cause this)
- View Position: distance from between the eyes, or from the Head bone if there are no eye bones. Also catches a View Position at or below the ground
- Root: position (0,0,0), no rotation, scale 1 - as VRChat's guide says
- Rig: missing, Generic or broken Humanoid rig
- Height: eye height outside about 0.5-5 m (VRChat's guide), and unusually short or long legs
- Import settings: model Scale Factor and Convert Units changed from the default
- Walking animations: custom Base layer, and animations that move the body up and down (RootT.y)
- Copy results: one button copies everything as text, to paste when you ask for help
Items marked "(guess)" are common causes from community reports. They are not stated in VRChat's documentation, so fixing them may not change anything in game.
Free vs Paid
Free ($0)
- Full diagnosis: ground, View Position, root, rig, height, import settings, walking animations
- The reason and how to fix each item
- Select the related object in the scene
- Copy the results
Paid ($5) - everything in Free, plus:
- Fix all in 1 click:
- → Clean up the root - position 0, rotation 0, scale 1 (the size is kept: the scale is moved to the children)
- → Move the soles to the ground - moves the Armature, and the outfits' own Armatures with it
- → Put the View Position between the eyes, 2 cm in front
- Or fix one item at a time
- Option: duplicate the avatar first - the copy is fixed and the original is hidden
- One Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) undoes everything
With the free version you follow the steps by hand.
Good for
- Your avatar floats or sinks after changing shoes or outfits
- Your view is too high, too low, or inside the head
- You don't know which setting is the cause and want a list to check
Not for
- Problems that only happen in game from other avatars' or worlds' settings - this tool only looks at your avatar in Unity
- Floating caused by things not on the list above - if nothing is found, it says so
Language
English and Japanese interface. It shows English automatically unless your Unity or OS language is Japanese, and you can switch with the "English / 日本語" toggle at the top of the window.
Install
- Drag the .unitypackage into your project and Import
- Open Tools > Avatar Grounding Fixer
- Drag your avatar into the Avatar field (or select it) and press Diagnose
Requirements
- Unity 2022.3 (the version VRChat uses). The VRChat SDK (Avatars) is needed for the View Position checks; without it those checks are skipped
- (Tested in Unity 2022.3.22f1 with VRChat SDK 3.10.5)
Notes
- "(guess)" items come from community reports, not VRChat's documentation. Always test in VRChat after uploading.
- The soles are the lowest point of the visible meshes. Hidden (turned off) outfits are not measured.
- Static meshes outside the Armature are not moved by "Move the soles to the ground".
- If the root's scale is different on each axis and its children are rotated, the look can change slightly after cleaning up the root.
- Without eye bones, the View Position is not fixed automatically (the tool tells you how to place it by hand).
- This is not an official VRChat tool.
- Digital product - no refunds after purchase. Bugs will be fixed in updates.
- Questions and bug reports: please send us a message on Jinxxy.
