*

“Cyber Citizen” is a collection of outfit and hairstyle assets designed for use in VRC.

It is compatible with ModularAvatar, so you can easily equip these items on your avatar.

★ Requirements

  • Unity: (Confirmed working with 2022.3.22f1)
  • VRChat Creator Companion (VCC)
  • VRChat SDK: (Confirmed working with 3.10.3)
  • Modular Avatar: (Confirmed working with 1.17.1)
  • lilToon: (Confirmed working with 2.3.2)
  • Gesture Manager: (Confirmed working with 3.9.8)

Note: Using different versions may cause unexpected errors.

If you encounter issues, please try matching the versions listed above.

★ Pre-Supported Avatars

While this asset is natively designed for the original 3D model "Monochi," it can be converted for other supported avatars via "Mochi Fitter." Below is the list of avatars that include pre-configured setup data inside this package. If you are using one of these avatars, we highly recommend utilizing the dedicated, pre-adjusted setup files found inside the "AvatarSetup" folder.

  • Monochi
  • Nemo (Bodyset2)

★ Setup Guide

1. Project Preparation

  1. Install the VRChat Creator Companion (VCC). Click "Create New Project," select the "Avatar" template, and create a new project. (Skip this step if you already have an active project).
  2. Open the project settings by clicking "Manage Project" in VCC. Use the package search bar to locate and install VRChat SDK and lilToon.
  3. If any package cannot be found via search, look up its individual official page to find the latest installation instructions and follow them carefully.
  4. Launch the Unity project once all packages are fully installed.

2. Importing Data

  1. Drag and drop your base avatar data into your Unity project window to import it.
  2. Drag and drop the downloaded ".unitypackage" file for this asset into the same Unity Project window.
  3. Ensure every single file is checked in the Unity Import window, then click "Import." Verify that the new asset folder has been created.
  4. Open the folder labeled AvatarSetup. Navigate to your avatar's specific folder, select the pre-configured Prefab file, and prepare to add it to your avatar.

3. Fitting the Asset via Modular Avatar (MA)

  1. Drag and drop your base avatar data into the Hierarchy window to place it in the Scene view.
  2. Drag and drop the MA-compatible asset Prefab data directly into your avatar's Root object (the top-level parent object of your avatar).

4. Item Customization & Adjustment

  1. Ensure that the objects named "CyberCitizen_Cos_" (for the outfit) or "CyberCitizen_Hair_" (for the hairstyle) are placed directly under the root of your avatar in the Hierarchy. Placing them inside other sub-objects will cause them to malfunction.
  2. To adjust the shape or fit, navigate to the Hierarchy and open the game objects named "CC_CostumeSet" (for the outfit) or "CC_HairSet" (for the hairstyle) to access individual mesh parts.
  3. Select a specific part and locate the Skinned Mesh Renderer component in the Inspector window. Adjust the shape sliders under the BlendShapes dropdown section. (Note: Sliders reserved for system automation cannot be manually adjusted).
  4. Once all mesh parts are adjusted to your preferred configurations, proceed to the upload phase.

5. Uploading Your Avatar

  1. Press the Play button at the top of the Unity Editor (Enter Play Mode). Use the Gizmos or open Gesture Manager to simulate avatar movements and verify that the items fit and move correctly.
  2. If everything looks correct, open the upload interface via the top toolbar by navigating to VRChat SDK > Show Control Panel.
  3. If any warnings appear under the setup panel, clicking the provided Fix or Auto Fix buttons will resolve most issues automatically. Complete the build and upload sequence.
  4. Upload complete! Launch VRChat and enjoy your new look.

★Advanced Configurations & Optimization

Clipping Prevention (Mesh Penetration)

  • While this asset has been thoroughly designed to minimize mesh clipping, penetration may still occur depending on your avatar's poses. You can resolve this by adjusting the shape optimization BlendShapes on your base avatar model to thin down the body parts hidden beneath the clothing.
  • If clipping persists, you can open the avatar's body texture in image-editing software (such as Photoshop) and mask out (make transparent) the skin areas that overlap with the clothing. Ensure you set the material's rendering mode to support transparency in Unity to visually eliminate the clipping entirely.

Using "Mochi Fitter" for Un-supported Avatars

  • Import the separately purchased "Mochi Fitter" tool into your active Unity project.
  • Download the official Monochi conversion profile from the "Monochi" product page and import it into the same project.
  • Open the Mochi Fitter interface. Assign this outfit asset as the "Target Asset," select "Monochi" as the source avatar base, and assign your desired un-supported avatar as the destination target. Run the conversion process.
  • Once completed, assign the newly generated outfit file to your avatar. For detailed software operations, please consult the documentation bundled with "Mochi Fitter" and the conversion profile.
  • Please Note: This conversion profile only supports outfits. The hairstyle component cannot be automatically converted via Mochi Fitter. To adapt the hairstyle to non-supported avatars, you must manually reshape it in external software like Blender, or manually adjust the bone scale properties and physics collider positions directly within Unity.

How to Toggle Parts ON/OFF Default States

  • To change the default visibility of specific sub-parts during an upload, navigate inside the "CC_CostumeSet" (outfit) or "CC_HairSet" (hairstyle) objects. Select the sub-part and toggle its active checkbox at the very top of the Inspector window. (Do not hide parts using the visibility icon in the Hierarchy window, as this will not apply to the built avatar).
  • To configure whether specific parts start as active or inactive when spawning the avatar in-game, select the main "CyberCitizen_Cos_" or "CyberCitizen_Hair_" object.
  • Locate the MA Parameters component in the Inspector window. Under the registered parameter slots, you will find default value inputs. Set your desired parts to either ON (visible) or OFF (hidden) to establish their initial state.

Optimizing File Size & Performance (Deleting Unused Parts)

  • The visual meshes for individual parts are located inside the "CC_CostumeSet" and "CC_HairSet" parent game objects. To reduce your avatar's performance rank and file size, you can permanently delete any unused sub-parts directly from these folders.

Consolidating the Expressions Menu

  • By default, Modular Avatar generates a completely separate sub-menu page for new assets. If you prefer to merge this asset's hairstyle menu directly into Monochi's default native hairstyle menu page, follow these steps:
  • Select the main "CyberCitizen_Cos_" or "CyberCitizen_Hair_" object and locate the MA Menu Installer component in the Inspector window.
  • Locate the field labeled Target Menu (or Installation Destination). Assign your preferred existing menu sub-folder slot into this field. The asset's control options will now neatly integrate directly inside that specific menu section.

★Troubleshooting

*Below are the items you should check if you encounter any issues.

  • The Unity version is 2022.3.22f1. Please verify that your version matches.
  • If the material turns pink, you need to install the “lilToon” shader.
  • The VRChat SDK is required for uploading.
  • Errors may occur if the VRChat SDK or ModularAvatar is out of date. Please try updating them.
  • Do not change the hierarchy or names within the Prefab, as this may cause the mechanics to malfunction.
  • There is a limit to the number of avatar parameters that can be used in VRChat, so please check that you are not exceeding this limit.
